Leibniz Institute on Aging - Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI)

The Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) is the first national research institute in Germany focusing on biomedical research on human aging, a multifactorial process controlled by environmental and genetic factors. Since 2005, more than 220 scientists from over 30 nations have been conducting broad research on the molecular underpinnings of aging and the development of age-related diseases in order to – eventually – create the basis for new therapies designed to improve health at advanced age.

Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU)

Friedrich Schiller University Jena connects visions and people, science and society, higher education, and external research institutions. As Thuringias biggest higher education institution, Friedrich Schiller University excels in both first-rate teaching models and excellent interdisciplinary research, making the Jena science region a beacon of international brilliance. Light Life Liberty: Friedrich Schiller University Jena pools its top research and culture of interdisciplinary study within these three profile lines. The profile line LIFE includes the fields of Microbiology and Biodiversity as well as Aging Research and Receptor Research using High-resolution Microscopy. The integrated development field of gerontology addresses research into biological aging processes, and their health-related and social effects.

University Hospital Jena (UKJ)

The only institution of its kind in Thuringia, Jena University hospital can look back on a history of more than 200 years. The University’s tradition as a medical school is yet older. Today, the University hospital with Its 26 clinical centers and 25 institutes provide care for patients, as well as teaching for 2,500 students of medicine, dentistry, molecular medicine and medical photonics. At Jena University Hospital, scientists work both in the field of fundamental biomedical research and in patient-related clinical research. Research on aging and age related diseases is part of the research profile of the UKJ.
